Decision Sciences International is a technology company that brings together cutting edge science, hardware and software development, systems integration and manufacturing to improve the safety and security of the global community. With their Multi-Mode Passive Detection System (MMPDS) DSI uses muans and electrons to compute 3-D images of the objects being scanned. Muans are subatomic particles produced by the cosmic rays that rain down from space. Muons penetrate the densest of materials while electrons provide valuable data for low density materials. This allows the MMPDS to detect even heavily shielded radiological and nuclear threats, as well as explosives and other contraband including weapons, alcohol, cigarettes/tobacco, drugs/narcotics, precious metals, smuggled humans and numerous other items. DSI actively engages in innovative ventures, and has demonstrated the ability to go above and beyond in truly bringing ideas to market. An example of this is the use of their PDS in Freeport, Bahamas. DSI has been located and operating in the City of Poway since 2007. They have now grown to 60 employees. Job growth is just one of DSI'S contributions to the North County economy. They have also raised and spent $95 million which supports employees and businesses in the North County. Decision Sciences also contributes to the region by helping it grow in a new direction through research, development, and commercialization of cosmic rays. Like many businesses Decision Sciences has overcome challenges from working in a heavily regulated sector, recession, competition, and rising costs of doing business. Nothing in this world, or from out of this world, could better exemplify the entrepreneurial spirit in the North County the way Decision Sciences does.
